A Special Word to all Readers
Again greetings to all who are visiting this website. I would like to take time and let people know a few things about the ministry in the Philippines. I think after you know some of the facts that it will be easier to understand our requests.

As many of you know the Philippines is a third-world country. While the area around Manila is fairly prosperous, with businessmen and women, companies from all over the world working and visiting the 7000+ islands that comprise this nation, there is a facet that many do not see. Even some areas of Manila has areas of extremely poor people. While there are many areas that prosper, there are many more that people struggle to make a living.

In our province, Quezon, we are split into 4 areas: I, II, III and IV; the cities to the north (areas I and II) are fairly prosperous. There are two malls, rice mills and many other opportunities for prospering. But in our area (area III and IV), there are none of these industries around and people fish and farm and hire on as laborers to work. Many men travel to other cities looking for some work just to support their families. Often times, even the women travel. Most families are big, which is indicative of the family unit here. However, often the cash flow does not meet the need for the families. It is to such a point that families often go hungry. sometimes eating maybe one meal if that. Many children cannot attend school because it costs money to send them. Many family units have asked other families better off to temporarily "adopt" the children so they have an opportunity to eat and attend school. Some families burn wood for charcoal; they earn about 20-30 centavos at kilogram. This is not a good income. The farmers do well if they have no bad weather (typhoons) come and damage the crops; the fishermen do okay but again depends on weather and such. Some travel all night to get to a fishing spot and then there is no guarantee they will have a good catch.

The cost of all staples is going up. Rice is about $.75 a kilogram but is not the best quality. While the government provides cheap rice, even then people cannot usually afford more than a couple of kilos and that just barely feeds the family of 4 two meals for a day. Of course, there's vegetables and fish and meat but all at extra cost. People labor hard to make the money but can only buy so much. We have many in our church that we help regularly but there are more in the community who we cannot help.

Why am I telling you this. Well, first of all, my concern is for the people over the church. I can finish the church anytime - we have a roof and enclosed area. The people are in dire need of nutrition, clothes and basics for their lives. Most cannot afford clothes for the children or even themselves. I know that America has been hit with economic problems but you are still very blessed. The laborer earns about $12 a week; thats when there is work. With the prices of food and basic needs rising, this does not handle the families needs. If we were able to get support on a monthly basis, we desire to open a kitchen to feed the families and help them as much as we can. Private donations of clothes, school supplies, grooming materials and such would also be appreciated. Please pray about what God would have you to do. If you send things send it via LBC or Cargo Plus to: Pastors Gary and Ana Kempton, Barangay Cutcutan, Catanauan, Quezon 4311. Be sure to include the telephone so they can contact us for delivery: 0906 281 8428 (international calls 011 63 906 281 8428).

I am asking you, those who read this, if you could commit to contributing $10 a month to this ministry. Nowadays, that amount is not a lot. Just ten dollars a month would help us to help the families in our area. If you are willing to do this, money can be deposited to the church account, through Wells Fargo bank, under New Beginnings of Life Ministries, Acct #100-9104561. We are only asking for the $10 but if you feel led to do more, that would be fine as well. Any gift would go greatly to take care of the needs of the people. Please let us know who you are so we can send you a receipt. If you have questions feel free to contact us at the number listed on the front page.

Sow a seed, fill the need, and receive the harvest.
